33rd Manila International Boof Fair: A bookworm's paradise

Of all the group outings we were required to go to, the 33rd Manila International Book Fair which was held at SMX convention center was my absolute favorite. It was just paradise when I arrived with my group mates. Books everywhere! And knowing that all these books, (if not all, then most of them) had discounts I was ecstatic! I’m a huge bookworm.

I love this poster that was a bit out front, because it really gave that carnival vibe to the whole place, it was after a fair.

Here's a photo of my lovely groupmates, and more photos of the fair!

50 Shades of Grey trilogy craze! I saw copies of these everywhere.

I love this shelf so much because it carried my favorite author, Chuck Palahniuk's novels!

Another set of in demand books, among teenagers at least are John Green's Young Adult novels.

I really enjoyed going to the book fair, I didn't even realize how fast time passed. In the end, i brought home 8 books with me. I'm definitely coming to the 34th MIBF.

Some Funny Moments at Reyes BBQ

Nikka , Liz and Ate Miel ordered food at the restaurant we stayed  before the interview was conducted . But the interview was already over , the food they were waiting for did not arrive on time. They verified it for several times. I don't know what what took the orders so long but they were really anxious about it. Until the orders came. Everyone is so quiet and eating their food .( they're very very hungry)

Advertising 101 with Miel Soneja

Last September 21, we went to Greenbelt to meet Ms. Miel Soneja, an advertising professional. We ask her some a few questions about her job and she answered these with full enthusiasm!

Questions and some notes of the answers:

1.)What is Advertising for you?
" Make it something creative and make it work. It must be understood and it is a solving a problem in a creative way."

2.) How long you will stay to your?
"I think it depends on the passion and agency."

3.) What does an advertisement do to a business?
"yun yung tiga hakot o tiga-akit ng buyers."

4.) What is specifically your work at the agency?
             Art Director.

5.) Why do you choose this job?
"I do not really expect this job" she says. According to Miel, at first she do not know what will be her position in the company she was working today but because it's not a big company and her talent she as assigned as an Art Director.

6.) Do you think of advertisising?
       Advertisement and product itself.

7.) What can you say about bad advertisement?
"DELIKADO. There is an ASC (Advertising Standard Council) that checks and see every advertisement before it will be publicized."

TV Show: Kris TV ~ "Bagong araw, bagong kwentuhan, bagong karanasan"~

Last September 20, Thursday, our group went to ABS-CBN to watch Kris TV as a partial requirement for our Principles of Mass Communication Class. It was my first time to watch a television show on a studio, so I was really ecstatic and thrilled to be there.

By the time we arrived at ABS-CBN, the guard stationed at the Audience Entrance notified us that we still can’t go through the gates until later, specifically at 12:30 pm, (apparently we had arrived to early – it wasn’t obvious that we’re excited, was it? ) so we resolved to eat lunch first at a nearby restaurant.

Then, it was time to go to the studio. When I watched the show on television, the studio looked big and spacious enough but in reality, it was unexpectedly small, and the audience seats could only accommodate no more than 100 people. I think this is one of the many tricks a camera could do.

Since the show will not start until 3 pm, the audience coordinator, Jhonas, instructed us first on what we will have to do once the show starts. This includes clapping after the opening song of the show begins and participating as an audience. He was an entertaining accommodator, with his hilarious quips and witty remarks. I’m sure you know him from the noontime show of ABS-CBN, Showtime.

Basically, the audience coordinator is the one who handles the audience department; letting them in and out of the studio and assisting them if needed. It was also because of Jhonas why we were able to get in the studio, so thanks to him. ☺

Since the show was not yet starting, we just watched Showtime in the studio for the meantime. From time to time, the camera behind us kept zooming in and out at the screen in front of us audiences. The assistant floor managers arranged the set design, putting the tumblers in place for later use of the guests and the host. They were also the ones who set up Kris Aquino’s endorsement product, Olay, in place (which we got as a freebie after the show. Lucky us! ☺)  and prepared her cue cards for the  show.

By around 3 pm, the host, Kris Aquino, finally arrived at the studio with Boy Abunda acting as her co-host. After a few retouches done by her make-up artist, they started taping the show. They first taped the opening and ending of the show. After a few moments, the guests, Liz Uy, Georgina Wilson, Ethel Booba and RR Enriquez also arrived at the set. Their topic for that day was about friendship.

Every time they would already start taping the show, the floor manager made sure that all was set to begin the taping and cued the audience and the talents to begin the action.

On another note, the stage manager (I assumed) was the one who coordinated communication between the host and the guests or audiences.

Overall, this had been such a delightful experience because not only we were able to watch a television show live, we also got to see how television production works. Now, we can say to ourselves, "So, that's how it works."
